With increasing sized constellations being used in conjunction with spatial multiplexing
MIMO systems, the complexity of even polynomial-time detection methods can be
computationally burdensome. In comparison, linear detection methods increase in
complexity linearly proportional to the constellation size and number of transmit
antennas used. However, basic linear detection strategies suffer significantly from noise
enhancement due to non-orthogonality of the channel matrix. Lattice-reduction-aided
detection (LRAD) has been identified as a way of improving the performance of linear
detection strategies.
